During the cooler months I have been using a lot of Turmeric in my cooking and in my morning green smoothies.  I have become a huge fan and stock up every week at my local farmers market.

Turmeric is an ancient old herb originating from India and South East Asia. It belongs to the same family as ginger; both are similar looking except Turmeric has a distinct orange colour. Both have amazing medicinal properties.

My top 3 top reasons use Turmeric

 Anti-Inflammatory properties that may assist

  • Migraines
  • Arthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Cardio vascular disease
  • Type 2 diabetes

Brain Health

  • Slowing the progression of Alzheimer’s. Studies have found turmeric contains natural agents that block the formation of amyloid plaques that obstruct the cerebral function.

Cancer

  • Shown to stop the growth of new blood vessels in tumors
  • Studies show turmeric is having a promising effect on pancreatic cancer
  • Rodent studies suggest it inhibits growth of melanoma
  • Turmeric can slow the spread of breast cancer into the lungs
  • Pre-treatment with curcumin (main active ingredient in turmeric ) makes cancer cells more vulnerable to radio and chemo therapy

If the above isn’t enough to get your attention – Turmeric can also assist in

  • Weight loss
  • Boosts metabolism
  • Benefits against depression
  • Helps delay ageing and fight age related chronic disease
  • Natural antiseptic
  • Helps prevent gas/bloating
  • Helps coughs
  • Improves skin conditions, psoriasis, eczema
  • Lowers cholesterol
  • Natural antibiotic
  • Speed up wound healing
  • Slows progression of MS
